How Much Does a Psychologist Cost?
You are unique, and there is no ‘one-size-fits-all’ template for how we can work together. The therapeutic approach and the number of sessions you require depends on your situation.
When you call us at All Relationship Matters, one of our trained Psychologists, Counsellors or Psychotherapists will answer your call. They will explore your needs and concerns in depth. If possible, and if you require it, they may be able to give you an estimate of the possible length of therapy.
The range of counselling fees, depending upon the Counsellor’s or Psychologist’s training and experience, is as follows:
- Individual counselling cost per session: $190 - $350
- Couples or marriage counselling cost per session: $220 - $370
- Family therapy cost per session: $220 - $470
- Trauma Counselling cost per session: $290 - $570
- Group therapy cost per two hour session: $ 110.
A session goes for approximately 50 minutes to an hour.
You do not require a doctor/GP referral to use our services. Some private health rebates may apply. This depends of your type and level of cover. Where we refer you on to other professionals in our network, their fee schedules may not be the same as ours. There is no fee for the referral.
Please note that Medicare does not rebate relationship counselling cost for couples/families, even if one or both clients have a Mental Health Treatment Plan.
You can also choose to see our Psychologists under the Medicare Better Access Scheme. Under this scheme your GP must first assess whether you require the services of a Psychologist. If yes, you will be issued a Mental Health Treatment plan which entitles you to 6 sessions of Counselling and Psychology services. After the 6 sessions, you are required to see your GP for a review. And if more sessions are required, you will be allocated a further 4 sessions. Medicare Better Access Scheme allows a maximum of 10 sessions per calendar year. Under this scheme, your out of pocket costs is $65.20 per session.
We have a team of wonderful, mature, highly experienced Relationship Counsellors and Psychotherapists that Medicare, in their wisdom, currently do not fund. Please talk to us regarding the fees for their work as many operate at reduced fees in order to effectively give you the rebate. Being outside the Medicare Better Access Scheme has many advantages as these sessions are not subject to any limits nor do they require repeated visits to your GP.
Cancellation policy
Your session has been reserved especially for you. We respect your time and we ask that you kindly respect ours.
Please contact us as soon as possible to re-schedule if you are unable to attend your session. A cancellation fee of 50% of the session fee will be charged if you cancel or reschedule with less than 48 hours’ notice (weekdays) or do not attend a scheduled appointment. A cancellation of 100% of the session fee will be charged if you cancel or reschedule with less than 24 hours’ notice (weekdays) or do not attend a scheduled appointment. The Cancellation Fee must be paid within 7 days or at your next appointment, whichever is earlier.
This fee is not covered by Medicare, Private Health funds, WorkCover, TAC, or Third Parties and applies to all clients.
Repeated cancellations or failure to pay the Cancellation Fee may result in your Psychologist terminating their services, at their discretion.
As a courtesy, ARM sends confirmation reminders of your appointment via SMS, to your mobile phone, one to two working days prior to your appointment.
However, sometimes technology is not very reliable and you may not receive your SMS reminder. Because of this, you are encouraged to keep a record of your appointments elsewhere, as cancellation fees still apply even if you do not receive your SMS reminder.
